Meet the commissioners of the Portuguese Science Summit 2025!

This year, Portugal's largest science and technology meeting has Pedro Pita Barros and Vera Aldeias as commissioners.

Pedro Pita Barros, who holds a PhD in economics, carries out his research in the areas of Health Economics, Economic Regulation and Competition Policies. With a degree in Economics in 1988, a Master's in Economics in 1992, a PhD in Economics (1993) and an Aggregation in Economics in 1997, Pedro Pita Barros is a Full Professor at the Nova School of Business and Economics, Universidade Nova de Lisboa and holder of the BPI - la Caixa Foundation Chair in Health Economics. He is also a consultant to public and private entities in the areas of health economics and competition policy and economic regulation and a member of the Economic and Social Council (elected as a Person of Recognized Merit).

Vera Aldeias graduated in Archaeology from the University of Lisbon in 2002, with a specialization in Geoarchaeology from the Geology Department of the University of Lisbon. She has a PhD from the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania, USA (2012). She did post-doctoral research at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig (Germany) between 2013-2017, before returning to Portugal in 2017. She is also a Coordinating Researcher at the University of Algarve, group leader at the Interdisciplinary Center for Archaeology and the Evolution of Human Behaviour (ICArEHB), at the University of Algarve (UAlg) and, since 2022, Principal Investigator of the ERC Starting Grant MATRIX.
