Nova SBE in Carcavelos will soon be hosting what is our biggest and most important annual event, the Portuguese Science Summit 2025! Organized by FCT and Ciência Vivain partnership with Universidade Nova de Lisboa, which will debate Science, Innovation and Society, in a schedule 60 sessions and more than 200 speakers.

Let's get to know three of them better:

Representing the European Commission, Marc Lemaître comes from Luxembourg. Director-General of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD) since February 2023, from 2016 to 2023 he was Director-General of the Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO). He has extensive experience in European affairs. He joined the European Commission in 2007 as Head of Cabinet of the Commissioners responsible for Regional Policy and later for the Budget. She will be present at Ciência 2025 on July 11, on a day especially dedicated to Europe.

Tommaso Valletti, Professor of Economics at Imperial College Business School and Adjunct Professor at the Norwegian School of Economics, is another guest speaker. Tommaso Valletti holds a magna cum laude degree in Engineering and a Masters and PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics. On July 10, we will hear his views on the Draghi Report, in a plenary session that will give us a critical analysis of the document.

Closer to home is Helena Freitas, Professor of Biodiversity and Ecology at the University of Coimbra, coordinator of the Center for Functional Ecology and holder of the UNESCO Chair in Biodiversity and Conservation for Sustainable Development. Helena Freitas represents Portugal on the IPBES Platform and is a member of the International Committee of UNESCO's Man and the Biosphere schedule (ICC-MaB). She chairs the Advisory Board of the Business Council for Sustainable Development (BCSD Portugal) and runs Serralves Park. He will take part in a plenary session on "Biodiversity and Sustainable Development", which will also take place on July 10.
